Page shots from Leonard Koren's New Fashion Japan (Published by Kodansha America, 1984 (first edition))
Such a treat getting this book in the mail. I discovered it during my usual perusing eBay for vintage Issey. It is out of print and a bit of a pinch but well worth the dramatic spreads/photographs - especially the Rei Kawakubo abstractions of designs flying through the air (there are a lot more but this post was already gigantic!). 1980s fashion from Japan was a very refreshing approach to clothes-wearing, with emphasis on layered textiles and their reaction to the body moving with and within, resulting in this sort of druid androgyny thing.
luv it! esp. the striped kimono page. want.
