from top to bottom: warp weft woof blouse using 'our haus' textile design, a textile swatch. two jacquard loom shots
That third loom shot is amazing. See how the light reflects off the edge there? You would think that is some sort of vinyl, when it is actually 100% cotton that has been mercerized and gassed, which changes the chemical structure of the fabric, stripping it of its fuzz, giving it that pearly look. The pattern then emerges from the work of a digital Jacquard Loom. The primitive, mechanical Jacquard Loom used a series of punched cards to control a sequence of operations to form a pattern - so it is considered an important predecessor to computer programming. Yes, textiles!
Also the pattern reminds me of the interior of Lando's palace in Star Wars Empire Strikes Back. I found screen shot only after sifting through 10,000 photos and videos of Luke and Darth Vader fight scenes. I am certain this is because Stars Wars nerds don't care about really good futurist set design. If you watch this movie pay attention to scenes in Cloud City. They are so amazing! The "art" and furniture and wallpaper and all other kinds of touches are really out there.
